Step 1 - FRN
First, we need to start with an FRN—a Federal Registration Number issued by the FCC. Once you have this, we can get you registered for an exam. If you already have an FRN, great! We can proceed. If not, you can use the link below to register for an FRN. This process is typically quick, and you'll have your number shortly after registering.
One thing to keep in mind: your FRN Registration should match your ID. If you use a nickname but your ID shows your legal name, the VE Team might not be able to test you until this is corrected. If you need any help at all, please reach out to us—we’re happy to assist!

You have your FRN—awesome! Now, let's get you registered for an exam. Simply click the link below, fill out the information on the form, and you're almost set! Once we receive your registration, we'll reach out to schedule your test. Absolutely no pressure whatsoever! Even if the time is outside what we’re showing, we frequently test outside our listed hours.

Step 3 - Testing Time
You’ve completed the hardest part—now it’s super easy!
Here’s what you’ll need for your testing session:
A government-issued ID: Ensure it's valid and matches the name on your FRN registration.
A device with browser and Zoom capabilities: This can be a computer, tablet, or even a phone.
A quiet room to yourself: Choose a space free of distractions and radio study materials.
A blank piece of paper (optional): It must be clear of any prior writing or marks.
Built-in calculator (optional): If needed, you can use the calculator on your device. External hardware calculators aren't permitted.
When it’s time for your test, we’ll send you a Zoom Meeting link. You might end up in the waiting room briefly while we prepare, but don’t worry—that’s totally normal. As soon as we have an opening, we’ll bring you in.
Once you are in the Zoom meeting, We’ll introduce you to our team, review a few things on your device, and check your ID. After the meet-and-greet, you’ll likely be moved to an exam room. Here, you’ll adjust your camera to show us the area around your computer. We’ll check for prohibited items like extra screens/TVs, other individuals, radio study materials, crib notes, etc.
Don’t stress—this is a judgment-free zone! We only look for items that can’t be within the testing area. Messy rooms? We don’t mind. 😊
After the room check, get comfortable! Kick off your shoes, relax, and focus on your test.

Step 4 - FCC Payment
You passed—congratulations! 🎉 Be sure to hold onto your CSCE.
Within a few business days, you’ll receive an email from the FCC. Check this email on a computer—not a mobile device. Avoid opening Form 605—any modifications can disrupt your application process. Once your fee is paid, you’ll receive a confirmation email the next day with your license details.
Remember: your CSCE is valid for one full year in case of any issues.
Step 5 - Get on the air
This is where the fun begins! Getting on the air looks different for everyone. We encourage you to start exploring and enjoying your new shiny license!
